It is with tremendous sadness that we report that three of our beloved classmates, Ian Fellows, Stephen Heywood and Franky McNeil have passed away. To be quite honest, since hearing of their passing we have truly struggled with how best to handle this. We realized recently that perhaps the best thing we as a class can offer to their friends and family would be to share, in our own words, our memories and our thoughts. As such, we have replaced our original ‘Guest Book’ page with a page ‘In memory’ to Stephen, Ian and Franky. We urge you all to sign here (even if you’ve signed elsewhere on the site) and write whatever you’d like to share. There are far more people coming to this site than are posting, many of whom were not in the Class of ’87 but were friends, family, teachers, etc. We would ask that if you’ve come to this site and knew Stephen, Ian or Franky (regardless of whether you were in the class of ’87), that you sign this page. Tell a story, express your condolences, and allow their friends and families to see them through your eyes. We will be collecting for charities for Stephen, Ian and Franky at the reunion and further hope to have some of their family members in attendance. If any of you have any pictures of Stephen, Ian or Franky please send us a copy and we will post them on the site. Lastly, if there are any other classmates that should be honored on this page please "Contact Us". Thank you all… Sharra and Neil

I was most friendly with Franky who did the odd job on my car, we usually settled things the old fashioned way, in the form of trade. Beers for work. Franky was always good natured with a smile on his face which means I guess he was happy before he left this earth. I remember both Ian and Stephen as I had them in classes but did not really see them outside of school. I particularly remember Stephen being very funny and witty. |

It truly breaks my heart that we have lost three of our classmates. Unfortunately, I didn't know Franky personally but was friends with both Ian and Stephen. I remember them both as being popular, friendly, funny and truly kind people. Sadly, I can't recall the last time I saw Ian however I do vividly remember seeing Stephen after high school. I was lucky enough to go to college with and live in the same dorm as both of Stephen's brothers, Jamie and Ben. I remember one bitterly cold weekend night after a particularly bad day, I got back to my dorm and bumped into a few folks standing outside unable to get in. They asked me if I might be able to let them in and upon closer look I realized that one of them was Stephen who I hadn't seen since graduation. Seeing his friendly sweet face instantly turned my horrible night into a great and memorable one. I followed Stephen's heroic efforts throughout his illness and was incredibly saddened when I heard of his passing. I learned of Ian's passing as we were planning the reunion and was stunned. I'll never forget Stephen or Ian and my thoughts and prayers go out to Franky, Ian and Stephen's families. |

| It was very sad hearing the news separately of all 3 of these classmates of ours. I remember when Frank had his accident he was with another Newton Native, Mitch Nathanson. Ian and I were very good friends early on in life and then again in high school and post high school life and unfortunately lost touch some years ago. I was shocked by the news and the obituary threw me back to some wonderful memories in the red pick-up truck. Anyway, they are all missed. | |||

| I've had great post graduation memories of both Stephen and Ian. I did some traveling in Europe with Stephen, and Ian went on vacation with Dave and I to Jamaica. My fiance and I have had a particularly hard time with the loss of Ian as Dave has known his a wee child and we had always pictured him at our wedding. I love the pictures and when I can find some of my own will add them. | |||

My best wishes go out to all of the families. I did not know Frankie, but was fairly close with Ian and Steve. Whenever we hung out we had a good laugh or insightful conversation, and I am saddened by their loses. Of all the things written in my yearbook, one of the only ones I remember, and have used as a reference point in my life, is something that Steve wrote. It was a bit of a poem/riddle, and I have often thought of it. Thank you. |

I was in school with Stephen from 1st thru 12th grades - we lived in the same neighborhood. I remember exactly where I was when Bill Crowley told me of his ALS diagnosis. More information about Stephen's struggle is here: http://www.als.net/ffc/familyStory.asp?familyID=28 Ken Thompson has been working with the organization forever, he, Jamie (Stephen's brother) and Wendy (Stephen's wife) are inspirational! Their dedication, intelligence and energy will find a cure for this awful disease! |

| Unfortunately, out of the three, I only got the chance to know one of our classmates here. My loss, I know. I had the BIGGEST crush on Stephen in junior high school. He was funny, smart and just an all around nice guy. I had heard about his battle and have the movie about his fight, So Much, So Fast. (If none of you have seen it, you need to order it) His courage and optimism was humbling and, as I said to Will, still kicks me in the butt at the same time. We were so lucky to have them all! | |||

| How truly heartbreaking it is to learn of the all too soon passing of a few high school friends. I feel fortunate that I had the opportunity to know each of them. I will continue to always remember Stephen, Ian and Franky as I have since 1987. | |||

I remember a nice moment of rememberance for Frank at the 5th reunion and am glad to see him remembered here as well. We were best friends through elementary school at Burr (cub scouts... archery.... etc) and stayed friendly through Warren and NNHS, though lost touch after school. I remember catching the 6p news in 1992 and heard Jim Boyd talk about a car crash on the Pike that killed 2 Newton men, and the shock when Frank's (and Mitch) name was mentioned. His wake was one of the saddest times, and remember it was like a mini reunion. Coincidentally, Frank's grave site is right near that of my grandparents so I make a point to visit every year when I pay my respects (his stone has a nice proverb). If Frank's mom or other members of his family read this I hope you are doing well and know that he's remembered. I didn't know Stephen, but followed his story the last couple of years after catching an episode of Chronicle which included his battle with ALS. I didn't know Ian either, but am sorry to learn of his passing. |
